Gordon B. Nelson, 100 of Watkins, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Ostmark Lutheran Church, Watkins. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Rev. Joseph Midthun will officiate. Music will be by Shar Marquez. Casket bearers will be Larry Lunderby, John Munkberg, Andrew Likens, Steven Roeder, Matthew Arnold and Jack Munkberg. Interment will be in Ostmark Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home, Watkins.
Gordon B. Nelson was born on January 13, 1917 in Kingston Township, Meeker County, Minnesota. He was the son of Louis and Anna (Berg) Nelson. On June 5, 1943, Gordon was united in marriage to Mary Lunderby in Litchfield. They farmed in Forest Prairie Township for many years and also operated a livestock trucking business.
Gordon was a long time member of Ostmark Lutheran Church in rural Watkins. He had been a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a proud lifetime member of the Nation Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens and was active in local politics. His hobbies included fishing, dancing, listening to music and he enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his son-in-law, Rev. Michael Likens of St. Michael; grandchildren, Christine (Steven) Roeder of Ramsey, Lisa (John) Munkberg of Albertville, Andrew Likens of Rogers; great grandchildren, Samantha Kyle) Kreger of Oceanside, CA, Jack Munkberg of Albertville, Kellen Likens and Isaiah Likens of Rogers; sister, Maxine Tiffany of Woodland, CA; Godchildren, Brenda Peltzer, Larry Lunderby and their children, Alicia, Melissa and Theresa. As well as many other relatives and friends.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; daughter, Judith Likens; sisters, Arline Rancour and Adeline Danielson; brothers, Jerome and Everett Nelson.
