Marie Schreifels was born on March 16, 1923 in rural Cold Spring to Theodore and Ottilia (Krier) Schreifels. She married Jerome Roeser on November 14, 1944. Marie and Jerome farmed near Watkins where they raised nine children. In 1977 they sold the farm and butcher shop and moved to Watkins. At home Marie spent her time decorating, gardening, and serving her favorite meals to family and friends. From homemade bread, to liver sausage, to marshmallow pie, she was known for her fabulous cooking. Quilting, macramé and flower arranging were among her many hobbies. Marie loved playing Solo with friends and Rummy with family. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and while decorating the tree each year her common motto was, "If there is room for more, put it on." Marie was a devout Catholic and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Many are fortunate to have shared memories with her.
Marie is survived by her children, Sandy (Peter) Merten of Kimball, Carol (Dick) Faber of Watkins, Peter (Rosie) Roeser of Walker, Jerry (Sheila) Roeser of Watkins, Mary Kay (Vern) Becker of Eden Valley, Teresa (Paul) Lahr of Dassel, Margaret (Michael) Ludwig of Northfield, and Susan (Keith) Hiltner of St. Cloud; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Ramona Hokanson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; parents; son, Quentin; and grandson, Philip Ludwig; brothers, Ted, Father Ferdinand; sisters, Matilda Huberty, Theresa Menke, Rose Kraemer, Marcella Schreifels, Clara Huberty, Barbara Nistler, and Rita Ludwig.
